About Kelly
My passion is digging out and crafting compelling stories, exposing truths and raising voices for those who may otherwise not be heard. With nearly two decades of journalism experience, including as a capital city beat reporter and now investigative reporter- I’m always eager to expand my craft and learn new skills to uncover and relay information.
My news background is based upon years of enterprising, shooting and editing stories, as well as anchoring, and connecting with the community through social media (70,000+ followers across platforms). I currently report for the Fox 17 News investigative unit in Nashville, focusing on holding those in positions of power accountable, and anchor the weekend newscasts.

The best stories are ones which produce results or change for those who depend on us for help and transparency. After moving to Nashville in 2023, a series of my stories focused on legal loopholes and cracks in the mental healthcare system for offenders. An aspiring musician and college student was shot and killed by stray gunfire near campus. The suspect was previously charged in a different shooting, but let off for mental incompetence, and released back into society. My reporting exposed Jillian Ludwig’s tragic death, which could have been prevented, ushering in new laws for Tennessee.

I further broke an investigation into one town’s perceived traffic ticket quota, uncovering local leaders had more than doubled the police budget- funded solely by ticket revenue. After my report, the town reduced the number of officers in its department.

Another series of reports followed police oversight in Nashville, and a new state law that aimed to strip such accountability boards of their power to investigate citizen claims of officer misconduct. My investigation uncovered a stark difference of interpretation of the law, allowing for Nashville’s Community Review Board to push to retain access to police files.

I was at the forefront of my station’s coverage on the disappearance of Riley Strain, a story that made national headlines. My series of reports on the college student who went missing after leaving a bar on Music City’s popular strip, included obtaining exclusive surveillance video, an exclusive interview with one of the last people to report seeing Strain alive, and hard-hitting questions to local police, revealing potential holes in their investigation. I’ve also reported extensively on the Covenant School mass shooting and its subsequent impact on school security in Tennessee.

Before transitioning to Nashville, I reported and anchored in Richmond for a decade. One of my most memorable stories centered around the grieving families of two young men, who committed suicide at the same shooting range, using rented firearms. Both had documented mental health issues. After my story, state legislation was introduced to require background checks for gun rentals.

I also reported and produced an in-depth cold case story on the disappearance of a child stricken with AIDS, Brittany Williams. Two years later, I tracked down a woman in Indiana who claimed to be the long-missing girl. My exclusive report broke news of an FBI investigation into this woman’s identity. I also located the half sister of Williams, so the pair could take their own DNA test. The story earned an Emmy, AP Best Investigative Story, and Hard News Murrow award.

I’ve further been on the front lines of national stories while in Virginia’s capital, including Black Lives Matter demonstrations and the fall of Confederate statues in Richmond.

I currently anchor the Fox 17 News weekend evening shows, as well as investigating. I thrive in connecting with viewers whom I consider alongside me- not watching me. Those whom I meet in the field or in my daily travels, often tell me I’m no different in person. Audiences voted me in the top 3 for 'Best Anchor' in Richmond Style Weekly magazine's annual survey in 2021 (honorable mention), 2020 and 2018, as well as 'Best Reporter' in 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016.

I aim for my tenacity, compassion and dedication to continue to guide my stories, bringing light to injustices and aiming for change.
